Final day in Hong Kong

Our last day in Hong Kong after a fantastic week of sightseeing and eating our way around the city of many culinary delights. For our last meal we decided on French food and our friend Peter joined us and we had a great night.

On our last day we did some shopping and a visit to the museum of history which had an exhibition of old photos of Hong Kong before making our way out to the airport in the afternoon for our Qantas A380 flight home.

Les Fils a Maman the French restaurant where we enjoyed a great meal last night.

Jeff's Birthday & Disneyland Hong Kong

We had a big day today. It was Jeff's birthday and he wanted to spend the day at Disneyland Hong Kong. So after breakfast in bed we set out for the long train journey by MTR out to Disneyland resort station.

I have to admit that it was a great day and after having visited both Disneyland in California and Magic Kingdom in Orlando this theme park ticks all of the boxes.

The day began with breakfast in bed.

The entry way to Disneyland Hong Kong.

The traditional Main Street station at the entry to the park.

An old favourite Space mountain. This one has a few twists!

Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine cars. Similar to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad but this one has a very interesting twist.

Mystic Manor. A new ride that is a bit like Haunted Mansion but has some very interesting twists in store think Pirates of the Caribean and Indiana Jones rides all rolled up together! Possibly a new favourite ride.

Hong Kong - Lantau and 'Giant Buddha'

Today we chose to visit Lantau and the Giant Buddha or Tian Tan Buddha. We started out by taking the MTR for about 40 minutes out towards the airport to the end of the line and with a change to another line. On reaching Tung Chung we had to make our way up to see the Buddha by taxi/bus as the cable car service was not operating.

Hong Kong - evening on Hong Kong Island

We ventured over to Hong Kong Island to eat at Yellow Door a Szechuan restaurant suggested to us. We also got to explore this area at night and the mid level escalator walkway.

The Yello Door was on the 6th floor in the building which is first on the right above 7-eleven

Hong Kong evening of day 3

We had a great day of exploring the other side of Hong Kong Island and tonight we decided to visit the night markets on Temple street in Kowloon for something a bit different and then a walk along the 'Avenue of the Stars' (Hong Kong's version of Hollywood's Walk of Fame) to walk off our dinner.

Temple street night markets, Kowloon.

Hong Kong Island at night.

Hong Kong - day 4

Well the plan was to make a trip to Macau today but when we got to the ferry terminal all services had been suspended due to fog. So we opted for some retail therapy instead.

We went for a ride on the Ding-Ding tram today.
An interesting intersection on Hong Kong Island.

Hong Kong - first day of sightseeing Hong Kong Island

We got our first day in Hong Kong off to a flying start with lots of walking and seeing the sights on Hong Kong Island. We took the MTR under Victoria Harbour to Hong Kong Island and made our way to the Peak as it was going to be closed for the rest of the week so it was a good thing we decided to do this today. We then visited Man Mo Temple and walked along Hollywood Road and made our way back to Central and took the famous Star Ferry back to Kowloon. All this before lunch, I wonder what the afternoon has in store!

Hong Kong first evening

We arrived in Hong Kong after a great flight with Qantas. I have to say that they are consistent and we couldn't fault the flight and truly love travelling in the new Airbus A380 what a great way to travel. We cleared through customers and immigration fairly quickly collected our bags and boarded the Airport Express into Kowloon and were whisked away on the fast train which took around 30 minutes and then we took a taxi to our hotel, you think the taxis in Sydney are insane then you must visit Hong Kong :-)

We checked into our hotel the Intercontinental Grand Stamford which I have to say is very impressive and made our way to the room which has an amazing view of Victoria Harbour.

Our plane VH-OGH parked at HKG.

The view from our hotel room of Victoria Harbour

Vies across Victoria Harbour to Hong Kong Island.

Sydney to Hong Kong

Well our Hong Kong trip has finally arrived it has kind of snuck up on us as we have been very busy with work and learning French. We are very excited about our week in Hong Kong and looking forward to exploring this modern East meets West world. We have a flight time of 8 hours and 9 minutes today, what to do?
