Newcastle, NSW - Chess, The Musical (February 2021)

We managed a weekend away in Newcastle, NSW a 2.5 hour drive north from Sydney. We had planned this weekend in June 2019 to visit the town and see Chess in March 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic those plans were placed on hold until February 2021.

We had a half day on Friday, so after lunch we collected our rental car from the airport and headed north.

Our accommodation; Novotel Newcastle Beach was a great place to stay for two nights, with easy walking distance to the beach and the light rail which we used a few times during our stay.

We found a good collection of cafes, restaurants and bars along the water front where we ended up enjoying our lunch on Saturday and dinner was in an Italian restaurant where we caught up with several friends that had also travelled to Newcastle to see the show with us.

Chess, the musical at the gorgeous old Civic Theatre was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed the production.

All up we had a fun weekend and it was great to get away for the weekend.
