Rome day 1 (part I) - Borghese Gallery

We had an early start today to make the most of the limited time we have in Rome so our first stop of the day was the Borghese Gallery. We were both very impressed at the many statues, frescoes, paintings and mosaics that make up this amazing collection of art, it was well worth the early start and the queues.

After breakfast we headed up the hill to this expansive parkland that houses the gallery. It was popular in the morning with joggers out to beat the heat of the day with an early morning run. Tickets to the gallery were sold out so very impressed that we purchased these before we left home. We still had to queue to collect our actual tickets but the wait was worth it.

Entrance to the gallery you can see the queue already forming.

One of many amazing frescoes located throughout the gallery.

Another statue of David - impressed by the facial expression.

Daphne turning into a tree as she flees Apollo (Bernini) - who our hotel is named after.
